The captivating story of the Commanderie

The only thing the wine of Montmartre lacked in order to proclaim its qualities in France as well as abroad was a wine brotherhood.
In 1983, surrounded by wine lovers, Maurice HIS, President of the Republic of Montmartre, set up the only wine brotherhood in Paris. The ceremonial dress of the members is wine-coloured, embellished with gold and silver. Obert RIVIERE of the “P’tits Poulbots” succeeded Maurice His. Now, it is Gilles Guillet, the Grand Master, who reigns over this Montmartre miracle. A former water fountain which has become a temple to Bacchus.
And that is where, on the corner of rue Norvins and rue Lepic, stands an odd, neo-renaissance style building dating from 1833. This former fountain, surrounded by a garden adorned with vines, is where the august Commanderie du Clos Montmartre holds court.
The Grand Master, surrounded by his Council, holds with an iron hand in a velvet glove, the godsend of the past and the future dreams of the wine of Montmartre.
